Why is a 'Red Cross' used as a medical symbol? The sign of the Red Cross is associated with Red Cross Society, which is a voluntary organisation in the field of medical services. It was founded by Henry Dunant about 150 years ago. The sign is always found on hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, dispensary, ambulances, etc. The Blue Cross was introduced in the US but it is not as popular as the Red Cross, which is found worldwide. The reason crosses are used and associated with medical professions is mainly because of its use by the International Red Cross Society The  Red Cross emblem was based on the design of the Swiss national flag. The red cross emblem can’t actually be used by doctors or anyone else, as it’s regarded as an internationally protected symbol. The international Red Cross organization had won noble prize for its work for three times.  Coming to the matter, red cross is named for offering unconditional help to the people in need.  So, medical field, which also offers life saving services to the people adopted this symbol. That is the reason why hospitals and ambulances use red color plus symbol.

What is Hydroponics?Hydroponics, by definition, is a method of growing plants in a water based, nutrient rich solution. Hydroponics does not use soil, instead the root system is supported using an inert medium such as perlite, rockwool, clay pellets, peat moss, or vermiculite. The basic premise behind hydroponics is to allow the plants roots to come in direct contact with the nutrient solution, while also having access to oxygen, which is essential for proper growth.

What is Pacemaker?A pacemaker is a small device that's placed under the skin in your chest to help control your heartbeat. It's used to help your heart beat more regularly if you have an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), particularly a slow one. Implanting a pacemaker in your chest requires a surgical procedure.Types of pacemakers-Depending on your condition, you might have one of the following types of pacemakers.Single chamber pacemaker.-This type usually carries electrical impulses to the right ventricle of your heart.Dual chamber pacemaker-This type carries electrical impulses to the right ventricle and the right atrium of your heart to help control the timing of contractions between the two chambers.Biventricular pacemaker-Biventricular pacing, also called cardiac resynchronization therapy, is for people with heart failure with abnormal electrical systems. This type of pacemaker stimulates the lower chambers of the heart (the right and left ventricles) to make the heart beat more efficiently.

Why is Octopus Blood Blue?Hemocyanin, is responsible for keeping the species alive at extreme temperatures. Hemocyanin is a blood-borne protein containing copper atoms that bind to an equal number of oxygen atoms. It's part of the blood plasma in invertebrates.Blue-hued hemocyanin binds to oxygen in the blood and transports it throughout the octopus's body to supply tissues, a critical factor in its survival. Octopuses have three hearts and need more oxygen than most other invertebrates, so the hemocyanin allows octopuses to get a steady oxygen supply, even when it isn't readily available in their environment. It also ensures that they survive in temperatures that would be deadly for many creatures, ranging from temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit (negative 1.8 degrees Celsius) to superheated temperatures near the ocean's thermal vents.
To survive in the deep ocean, octopuses evolved a copper rather than iron-based blood called hemocyanin, which turns its blood blue. This copper base is more efficient at transporting oxygen then hemoglobin when water temperature is very low and not much oxygen is around.

What are those colourful Balls attached to Power lines? They’re called visibility marker balls or marker balls. You’ll often find them near mountain passes, in the deep valley areas, near major freeway crossings and around airports. They weight about 17 pounds each. The marker balls are placed on power lines to make the conductor crossings visible to aircraft. Helicopters and small aircraft often fly low in mountain passes or freeways and usually fly low while approaching an airport.
When you are flying, the conductors and skyline become almost invisible against the terrain — especially the skyline wires.
Many of the marker balls are required by the Federal Aviation Administration, like the ones near airports.

What are Dampers? What is the purpose of Damper in Overhead Transmission wires?Dampers used in transmission lines for avoiding oscillations in overhead transmission lines. Due to laminar wind, overhead transmission lines will be excited to vibrations and oscillations that can lead to damage on the conductor of the overhead transmission line, single parts or the pole. In order to reduce these vibrations and oscillations to an uncritical dimension, damping systems will have to be installed in the overhead transmission lines.Dampers used in transmission lines are of different types such as Stockbridge dampers, Spacer dampers etc.
